Playing fields are performative places, places of action. They define spaces in which people position and exchange in a playful way. On a field of play, rules apply that limit our scope of action on the one hand and challenge us at the same time to expand it. Playing fields are possibility spaces. What is possible depends on the game.
The spatial concept creates a three-dimensional playful space through the superimposition of two-dimensional playing fields, which fits into the surroundings like a field on the roof - visibly limited.
Clearly organized in terms of layout, the building stacked three different fields one above the other, the parking deck, the gymnasium with the inner playfields and the walk-in green roof with the various seating areas.
Function distribution and design concept
The layering of the plains into the slope allows an open underground car park on the lowest floor, which is accessed from the eastern road. The internal stairwell with lift connects the parking lots, the gym and ancillary rooms to the upper level of the school building.
The floor space of the underground car park visually extends into the retaining walls of the rising ground, thus differentiating the volume of the gymnasium in space. The surrounding horizontal light band follows the lateral light gap in the area to behind the auditorium and creates an indirect external reference without affecting the underlying playing field. At the same time, the light strip also completes the material separation of the wooden facade from the roof landscape above.
The inserted gym is perceptible through the walk-in roof area both in its function as a "playing field" as well as in the spatial differentiation to the environment. The roof field should be understood as an artificial landscape, as an additive element to the previous environment. The fluid forms articulate, direct and divide the surface at the same time. The result is a multi-layered space that coherently forms the development of the gym, play areas and recreation areas.
In the integrated school garden, the students get to know native vegetables and playfully gain an understanding of biodiversity, cooperation and a sense of responsibility.
