"La Pista Magica" - the relevance of the historical track and the culture of sport is significant for the city of Milan. The concept of the design is to intensify the dynamic character of the high-speed cycling in respect to the historical building. TWO circle-segments of the track will be preserved. The rest of the track will be reconstructed in robust material, so that cycling as a leisure activity remains possible and the spirit of “la Pista Magica” is conserved.
The new roof cladding is a reflecting iconic sign for the city of Milan. It is generated from the dynamic constant curvature physics of centrifugal movements of the cyclists during their performance. The inner homogenous shell of the roof increases festive atmosphere and covers both, the as-built steel structure and the new infrastructure. The programming is open to all imaginable different kind of sport-activities, ceremonies and events. To open the stadium to a wider public, the south-west entry in connection to the forecourt is raised to a new main entry with a clearance of 2-3 beam-axes.
The filling of the facade is changed to transparent. Under the stands most of the not supporting walls are dismantled in order to free the existing elegant Structure and render spacial qualities of the columns, beams and the bottom view of the stands.
The spacial functions are boxed between the axes behind a roundabout circulation. The retail areas centrifuge out of the structure materializing itself in a new fency wood-finish.
